Academy Park
Knights
Sharon Hill, PA
Head Coach: Jason Vosheski
Assistant Coaches: Charles Buecheler, David Vosheski, Bill Soper, Mike Ewing, Bob Soper, Greg Mulato, Mike Moors, Howard Chavous
Coming off their first winning season since 2001, all signs indicate that Academy Park is on the right track entering 2009. Credit head coach Jason Vosheski, who is entering his fifth season, and staff for taking the time to build a competitive program that is expected to be competitive in the Del Val League for years to come.
With five key starters returning on offense, the Knights will be hard to stop in 2009. Seniors Kabongo Bukasa and Marquis Bey provide two sure-handed receivers with blazing speed. And if having two D1 receiver recruits were not enough, junior speedster James Lewis is expected to fill the void left by the graduation of All-League WR Shane Sullivan. Under center, the loss of All-League QB Eric Gilbert is significant. However, Vosheski does not expect to see a drop in production with senior Brian McDonald stepping into the starting role. McDonald's biggest asset is his intelligence on the field however; he will have to prove his worth early with junior QB Allen Burton battling for the same spot. The biggest question facing the Knights as the season nears is who will replace the production of All-League RB Laquan Frazier? Senior Taron Mitchell headlines a long list of potential after stepping into a starting role in 2008. On the offensive front, seniors Kevin Bailey and Darius Hines will anchor the line following solid junior campaigns.
The Knight defense is expected to take another step forward this season with the return of fast and tenacious crew. Entering camp, the secondary appears to be the strong suite with All-League FS Bukasa leading the pack. Rounding out the backfield will once again be Bey at the corner while senior Tarahn Gaines and junior Allen Burton are expected to move into starting roles fulltime with the loss of Frazier and SS Eric Gilbert to graduation. At linebacker, the Knights will once again feature two All-League playmakers with the return of junior MLB Joe Richburg and OLB Mitchell. Up front, the loss of All-State DT Rich Crane and All-League DE Darryl Washington is significant. Academy Park does, however, return proven linemen in seniors Nazeeh Brown and Shane Walls.
On special teams, senior Rakim Milton and junior James Lewis are huge threats in the return game.
